Associate Director, Accounting & Finance

Department: Finance and Accounting
Location: Silver Spring, MD


HIAS seeks an Associate Director, Accounting & Finance to maintain accounting records and internal controls in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. They will manage all agency accounts payable processes and the U.S. Programs portfolio.


  • Maintains all balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis and the accuracy in all general ledger transactions, while ensuring timely monthly close.
  • Reviews general ledger transactions received from field offices and works with field office accounting staff on the corrections of any procedures.
  • Oversees month-end-closing process for assigned portfolio.
  • Reviews Country Office Monthly Finance Report to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares reconciliation schedule.
  • Maintains Fixed Assets Register and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepares temporary restricted net assets (TRNA) reconciliation on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares monthly overhead calculation and revenue recognition on Cost Reimbursement grant.
  • Reconciles all intercompany transactions between headquarters and international entities.
  • Provides support for annual financial statement audit and 990.
  • Assists on special projects as assigned.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of process improvements.


  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance; graduate degree a plus.
  • CPA/Chartered Accountant certification preferred.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with accounting systems required.
  • Knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results in a timely manner.
  • Full status to work in the United States and willingness to provide employment verification as required.
