Assistant Director, Accounting & Finance

Location: Silver Spring, MD

POSITION SUMMARY: 

HIAS seeks an Assistant Director, Accounting & Finance to maintain accounting records and internal control in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles. They will manage the U.S Programs portfolio, HIAS’ Loan Services and Program/Grant Reconciliation, as well as support the Assistant Controller with ad hoc projects. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains the U.S Programs portfolio reconciliation and schedules on a monthly basis. 

  • Approves affiliates expenses for payment in the accounting system and financial bank. 

  • Approves and reviews invoices submitted for billing to grantors. 

  • Reviews and approves loan payments in the financial bank. 

  • Keeps track of bank balance to fund affiliates payments on a monthly basis. 

  • Reviews the indirect cost reimbursement calculations from the Finance Manager. 

  • Provides support for the annual financial audit and 990 tax return. 

  • Implements new processes to improve U.S Programs portfolio and other grants. 

  • Supervises the Finance Manager and provides guidance and training. 

  • Assists the Assistant Controller with different projects and activities as requested. 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance; graduate degree is a plus. 

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a similar work environment. 

  • Strong background in accounting and finance. 

  • Experience with federal grants and contracts. 

  • Experience with ERP NetSuite or similar accounting system is a plus. 

  • Knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve problems. 

  • Attention to details. 

  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities. 

  • Ability to deliver high quality results in a timely manner. 

  • Willingness to complete tasks and goals in a timely manner.
