GBV Coordinator - HIAS Guyana

The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Coordinator will be responsible for creating an inclusive service and supportive environment whereby survivors of gender-based violence and LGBTI are welcomed. The GBV Coordinator will ensure quality services are delivered that meet both ethical and global GBV standards and that the programs evolve to meet changing needs in the Venezuelan crisis.

Organizationally, HIAS is guided by its’ Refugee Rights Framework. This rights-based approach, based on international human rights, humanitarian and refugee law and practice, provides a programming framework for HIAS’ focus on refugee protection.

The GBV Coordinator will report to the Program Manager and will work in coordination with the GBV Officers and the Psychologist.


  • Lead the implementation of quality GBV programming through the mainstreaming of age, gender, and diversity approach.
  • Lead the execution of safety audits and GBV needs assessments.
  • Provide supervision and technical guidance to GBV Officers.
  • Strengthen staff’s technical capacity to implement gender, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and prevention and response of GBV activities using common tools, core documents, specialized trainings, and context specific support.
  • Ensure quality case management for GBV survivors, supporting the deployment of HIAS Case Management System to ensure confidential handling of GBV case management.
  • Implement GBV case management standard operating procedures (SOP) in close coordination with other areas.
  • Together with the GBV Officers plan trainings and capacity building for beneficiaries, community mobilizers, leaders and service providers.
  • Participate in local GBV and Trafficking in Persons Sub Working groups in order to contribute to the development and implementation of the GBV strategy, avoiding duplication and addressing gaps.
  • Ensure inter-agency coordination on GBV issues with UN agencies, NGOs and civil society.
  • Provides accurate, timely and consistent analysis and reporting to HIAS Guyana Program Manager on GBV program activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.


  • University degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related field with at least 3 years of experience with direct implementation of GBV programs including some aspect of response services for survivors.
  • Formal training and conceptual management of gender, gender equality, masculinities, reproductive and sexual rights.
  • Working experience preferably in one of the following sectors: social, charity or NGO.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of violence against women and girls specifically and GBV more broadly and the ability to work in a survivor centered manner.
  • Familiarity with IASC guidelines on GBV in Emergency Settings.
  • Ability to develop work and training plans, meet deadlines and capture program progress for donor reports.
  • Strong motivation to humanitarian work, service-oriented mindset and sense of accountability to the populations HIAS serves.
  • Extensive knowledge of adult learning concepts to build capacity for GBV prevention and response.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically.
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
  • Sense of initiative and capacity to work autonomously.
  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a team player and able to work with a range of diverse, vulnerable populations; understanding of community-based approach required.
  • Ability to uphold the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
