Protection Assistant (Outreach)

Department: HIAS Aruba
Location(s): On-Site - Oranjestad, Aruba

The protection assistant will play an important role in identifying and strengthening community structures in the neighborhoods. The protection assistant will work closely with affected communities, local partners, and relevant stakeholders to promote the safety, well-being, and rights of individuals and groups at risk. Protection engagement assistant will actively engage communities through consultations, and in community activities. The protection assistant will work mostly in the communities.

This selection process considers only national candidates or current residents with a work permit of Aruba.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Identify community networks in the neighborhoods.
• Build strong relationships with community leaders and key influencers to ensure the sustainability and acceptance of protection initiatives.
• Conducts house visits to accompany the protection officer in case management.
• Gather updates regarding changing needs, risks and gaps in protection from the community.
• Dissemination of information rights, services and activities to the communities
• Gather people for consultations.
• Participate in community-based activities, to identify and refer to intervention and / or other activities/services.
• Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as required and ensure regular personal development and supervision
• Assist in the mobilization of community members for activities in the communities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Graduate degree in social science or related fields, a degree in psychology, is desired.
• relevant experience in community-based programs, protection initiatives, or related fields.
• Knowledge and experience working with vulnerable populations, especially refugees or migrants, is a plus.
• Willingness to work in both office and community settings
• Fluency in Spanish, other languages would be an asset.
• Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required.
• Ability to think creatively and critically.
• Ability to work within a team structure or independently, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources.
• Able to think outside of the box for sustainable community-based solutions and work with an empowerment and development approach.
• Able to self-troubleshoot when issues arise or have a solution-based mind-set to approaching new challenges.
• Proficient at managing oneself in a fast-paced environment with constant developments using organization and structure.
• Excellent time-management skills to accurately allocate the needed time during tasks and able to rapidly move on to the next one.
• Ability to work with people from different culture settings.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to uphold the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
• Candidates must possess a permit to work in Aruba.
