POSITION SUMMARY:
The Finance Officer, LAC will support the accounting and finance operations of countries in Latin America & the Caribbean. This position will work closely with the Director, Accounting & Finance, LAC, the LAC finance team and the HQ finance team.
The Finance Officer, LAC will assist the Director, Accounting & Finance, LAC to support in accounting records, following of reports, doing internal controls to ensure compliance and accounting information for each country.
Note, the salary range for this position is $45,000.00-50,000.00. This position is based in the LAC region in countries where HIAS has existing operations. The funding for this role is currently pending, and we will confirm with candidates before any final steps in the recruitment process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides monitoring support for deadlines and processes at the end of the month.
Supports the process and review of fund requests.
Reviews monthly reconciliations and returns as submitted by the country offices and recommends any actionable items.
Reviews general ledger transactions received from field offices and works with field office accounting staff on the corrections of any procedures.
Reviews project specific field office documents and timesheets.
Reviews balance sheet account reconciliations.
Ensures the ICR and revenue recognition in the international operations.
Provides financial information requested by other departments.
Supports in the planning of reports and other projects.
Participates in special projects that further the goals of the Finance & Accounting department.
Builds the capacity of country office finance staff.
Conducts monitoring visits with country offices.
Enters data into the Finance system as necessary.
Provides support to develop finance workshops.
Supports month-end-closing process and helps ensure the monthly closing schedule is maintained.
Develops schedules and work plans.
Helps to review some entries in NetSuite.
Provides support to the LAC finance team with audit requirements.
Follows-up on processes, tasks and pending activities to achieve identified goals.
Supports country offices as needed.
Develops tools and forms to improve and facilitate processes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate degree in accounting required; graduate degree preferred.
2-3 years of work experience in an accounting or finance position with accounting and budgeting responsibilities in an INGO or related field.
Fluency in Spanish and English, allowing for the preparation of reports, communications, and oral.
Excellent communication, proactivity, organization and interpersonal skills; ability to perform multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
Highly reliable and flexible, with the ability to adapt quickly to various environments and situations.
Experience with accounting systems; preference for NetSuite.
Strong analytical skills and ability to problem-solve.
Ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities.
Proactivity to suggest improvement processes.
Ability to travel to other countries up to 30% of the time.
Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
